Jón Martel’s work explores the harmonious relationship between forms and the effect of color in space. His objects exist between everyday items and artistic expression, developing a unique language that merges functionality with poetry.
Particularly significant is his interest in the materials porcelain and glass. Both offer him a wide range of tactile and visual possibilities, from the transparency and fragility of glass to the dense, substantial presence of porcelain. In these materials, he finds a personal anchor, which he continually explores through experimental practices.
Martel’s approach is both artistic and craft-based. He investigates how objects can be not only used, but also seen, felt, and experienced. This results in works that harmonize form and color, transforming the everyday into a new, sensuous experience.
